Partner Mail VS Release 5

I can't get outcalling to work. I've enabled the administrative outcalling feature and then turned on outcalling for a specific mailbox. I then programmed in a phone number (for a telephone), but outcalling never happened. I've tried programming the number in several different ways including putting a 9* before the actual phone number (ex. 9*6105551212). I tried using additional pauses (9****) just to see if it would make a difference but it still didn't work. I also tried the number without any pauses or the 9 (ex. 6105551212). I don't need to dial a 9 to get out (or a 1) for a normal call; for example, a normal call would be dialed as 6105551212. (FYI...In this area, the area code must be dialed even for local calls but a 1 is not needed for local calls.) Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

Other Info:
I did not create (or assign) an allowed phone numbers list because our extensions are NOT restricted to inside only...we can call any outside number at any time.

The outcalling schedule was left as the default (24hours).

We have the 2-port version but in the documentation that I found it shows that the 2-port version does include outcalling (see below).

Partner Mail VS R5.0 2 Port
2 Ports
4 Automated Attendants
48 Mailboxes and 100 hours of storage
5 Number Cascaded Outcalling and Pager Notification
Multilingual capability - English, Canadian French, and Latin American Spanish
Fax Detection

Hi RobinMist,
I hate to tell you this, but you need at least 4 ports for this feature. You have done everything else okay. Read your documentation very carefully and you will see that this is the case. I use this feature often and it works well.
Sorry for the bad news,
-Chris

Hi. Thanks for your response! That is a bummer. It's confusing though because I don't see it specified in the documentation. For some features such as "Record-a-Call" the documentation states that the feature is only available to subscribers with a "4-port PARTNER MAIL VS Release 5.0 configuration". The documentation does not state that for the Outcalling feature.

Actually I just found something in the documentation which indirectly indicates that Outcalling IS available for 2-ports.
From page 6-12 of the “Partner Mail VS Voice Messaging System Release 5” documentation---Troubleshooting chapter:
"Outcalling Is Delayed"
"Possible Cause 1: There is heavy call traffic and Outcalling volume on the mail system. The Outcalling port is also used in call handling. If your system performs heavy Outcalling or has heavy call volume, the port may frequently be unavailable for Outcalling."
"What to do: You may need more ports (if you have a 2-port system), or you may need to reduce the number of subscribers who have Outcalling or Record-a-Call privileges."

(We have an extremely low volume of calls.)

Thanks again for your response. Please let me know if you have any other thoughts on this matter. Thanks!!!

Robin

You can use Outcalling on a 2 port, for Record A Call you need a 4 port.

Try setting your outcalling schedule to start at 12:01 AM ans stop at 11:59 PM

After you leave a voice mail, do you see any lines light up to indicate that outcalling is being attempted?

Make sure that there are lines assigned to the voice mail ports, and that they are not restricted via #302, #401, or #405.

For testing, try putting in an EXTENSION number as the outcalling number, that is just put in "10" as your outcalling number. Then, leave a message, and see if it calls extension 10 to notify you of the received message. This will confirm if outcalling is working.

Put a butt-set in the monitor mode on the 1st available line, and see if you can hear the outcalling attempt, to see if the call fails when hitting the PSTN.

Try using 801, or 802, etc. to force the call out over a specific line, instead of 9 which picks any available line. (for testing only, once you get it working, change it back to 9)

Thanks for all the tips! I will definitely try them. Thanks again!!!
