My questions pertain to call information sent out by Norstar over ISDN/PRI service. Per MICS 5.0 & 6.0 Installer Guide, Norstar sends the calling party name based on Business Name and Set Name concatenated together. Some of the information I've reviewed on this site indicate that OLI # is also sent out on calls originated by the Norstar system.

Does the calling party name mask the OLI # or are both pieces of information sent out together? Does assigning a Business Name in Norstar cancel the OLI # feature as suggested by some of the posts on this site? The guides indicate that OLI # is based on the set number. Does this mean that the number assigned to OLI # cannot be an arbitrary number and must be based on the set number, or is it that Norstar ignores the OLI # setting if it is not based on the set number? Does the LEC need to provide a special service to allow Norstar to send out call information in addition to the service that provides caller ID/information to the Norstar? What other services or features are necessary to allow individual stations/DNs send out specific caller ID?

Thanks in Advance.[smile]

Where are you located? (Things in Canada are different). In the US, Calling Party Name is not transmitted by customer equipment to the network except in a few 'private network over public trunk' situations. I haven't done OLI programming on a Norstar in AGES, but on the 'bigger' systems, almost always the 10 digit Calling Party Number programmed in the equipment will be sent to the public network as long as the carrier is set to pass it. Some LEC's and CLEC's will only transmit numbers that are in their screening database (i.e. you cannot usually set a toll-free number as OLI, and you can only set valid DID numbers in most cases.) There are also translations that the LEC/CLEC can set to override anything sent by the custoemr equipment.

Name is displayed based on a database lookup done by the receiving telco--if they don't pay to do the lookup from the 'orginating' telco, then name will not display. Number is sent forward with call set up, and is almost always displayed (assuming SS7/isdn trunking end-to-end). hopefully someone else can speak to the Norstar specifics.

I'm Based in the US. The customer is especially interested in passing caller ID specific to the station that originates the call from the Norstar. I need to make sure that we have all the pieces in place to implement that.

I would skip all ISDN related 'name' information--the name that will display will be the name programmed on the account by the LEC/CLEC if the receiving end does the database dip.

Program the station-specific OLI if that is what the customer wants... if your LEC/CLEC doesn't block it, then it should get sent forward with the call. (Not to be repetitive, but the only thing 'transmitted' in the US is the Calling Party Number (OLI) for the vast majority of calls.)

If you find that only the main number gets sent, then you may need to confirm with the lec that they have the trunk group (for PRI) or lines (for BRI) configured to allow CPE provided Calling Party Number.

Good luck!

I've also noticed that the area code is already passing and I can only change the remaining seven digits. Thus eliminating the ability to send 800 info, but I do have the capability to send and 7 digits, 1234567 if entered will come out (area code)1234567 on receivers phone.
