My customer is running Exchange Server 5.5 and has Verizon business DSL. They were using a national service provider for email. They want to use their own hosted domain for POP access and send email via a Verizon relay. They do not have a static IP and hence cannot use the SMTP server within Exchange to process outbound email to the internet.

I have set up IMS on the connections tab to "Forward all messages to host: outgoing.verizon.net". Where do I enter the account name and password that Verizon wants for relaying authentication?

Thanks for your help.

I can answer my own question! I found this answer elseware on the Internet and being that it worked I will post it here for anyone else with the same problem:

"IMS is a connector. You can do authenticated outbound to smarthost with 5.5. Try IMS properties, Security, select default, Edit, (Outbound Connections section) SSL/SASL Authentication, SASL AUTH clear text, Change - enter account and password. (you can check SSL if the smarthost supports it).
You'll need to stop and start the IMS."
