We have an exchange 5.5 server sp4, and we are using office 2000 sp2 Out of Office assistant works for all users except 1. I can log onto any machine in the company and setup his email profile turn on the out of office assistant and nothing happens.

How do I correct this?

Interresting to say the least so anything else you can add would be helpful.

Can this person actually see the Out of Office Assistant window from his/her PC and set the Out of Office on or off?

Does the following apply?
Offline folders and Remote Mail
If you use an offline folder (.ost) file or Remote Mail, "client only" rules are not applied when you synchronize offline folders or connect to your mail server and transfer mail. You must connect directly to Microsoft Exchange Server before the rules are applied. You can, however, manually apply client rules to your offline folder or remote mail folder at any time by clicking Run Now in the Rules Wizard. Learn about the Rules Wizard.

I'm having the same problem as well. I'm trying to activate ther out of office using Web Access and it just will not work for one user. Ive tried lots but nothing seems to be working so far. I've logged my problem under the tek-tips.com Microsoft Office Forum.

I can see and turn on and off the office assistant but this doesn't change anyhting. I have also set his email up on my machine and the office assistant doesn't work for him on my machine either! However he does use a laptop once in a while when he's on the road! When he get back I will take the laptop and see if I can change it there!

Our users while on the road use VPN to connect to our network so they are in direct connection with the exchange server!

Taking the user's laptop will not work because I've tried that too. I'm in the same position awaiting a solution

Well we have corrected the problem, we fired that user today so the problem no longer exists!

Just kidding but we did solve it. We exported all of the email to a PST. Deleted the mailbox from the exchange server and created a new mailbox for the user with the same name and properties. The out of office assistant now works for that user.

I have what appears to be a similar problem (with 2 users, out of 80): when they select "Tools - Out of Office Assistant" they get msg "The Out Of Office Assistant could not be displayed. The client operation failed." Click OK then get msg "System resources are critically low. Close some windows." (same on P2-300 with 64MB RAM, or P3-667 with 256MB RAM & 2.75GB free hard-drive space & no other programs running). Click OK & back to Outlook (it doesn't cause hang or crash).

Client: Outlook 2000 SR1 SP2, Windows 98
Server: Exchange Server 5.5 SP4, Windows 2000 SP3

Any ideas? We have recently migrated our mailboxes to a new server. Perhaps the solution used by "aultbmh" should be our next step...

Regards,
Alistair

You may try using Microsoft's Clean Sweep tool to clear the Out of office template for these two users and see if that will clear the error. joegz
