Can anyone give me a budget estimate to buy OTM software?
I'm looking for a ballpark estimate to figure out if is something I can put it into next years budget. I'm looking for a +/- 20% estimate.

I don't want to call my vendor and get the pressure sales pitch. Nor do I want him to call me every two weeks and try to persuade me to purchase it because "I can't live without it".

How many extensions u have in your switch? OTM cost varies depending on number of extensions and the level of software as well. There are three levels of software.

Its better you first discuss with the vendor who may explain all the features of OTM to you so that u know all about OTM features before u decide to purchase it.

I went hunting on the net and learned a little more about OTM. When I posted my note, I hadn't realized that OTM is licensed by the number of dial-numbers. I figured it was sold as a package and not dependent on number of numbers. Needless to say, I am disappointed.

I'm afraid to call my vendor. He's the one that sold me MAT about 2 months before they discontinued it. I got burned and I hate to go back to him.

If you can tell me what applications in MAT you're running, how many sites are being administered, how many sets, and how many clients...I can get you a decent ballpark.

Nortel is actually making it very affordable to migrate the software (from around $400 up to $1800 or so depending on the package/applications). What really can get costly is the implementation (installation and training).

Instead of buying new one, migration to OTM can be a afordable solution.

I have roughly

* 100 DID;

* 120 inside numbers (non-DID);

* 35 M3903 digital phones;

* 2 M3904 digital phones;

* The balance are 500 sets; faxes and modems.

Interesting, I thought MAT only came in one flavor. Anyway, I'm not too familiar with MAT but I'm able to make changes to digital and analog ports and I can use the commandline options via MAT. I can connect via an in-house Ethernet connection. It's suppose to be able to do call analysis but I've never had time to play with it. It came with some PC applications but we never got them installed (too many features for us old time folks and a fear that someone would steal the computer - they've all ready stolen the printer; one digital set and a handful of analog sets).

Are those the kind of features you're asking about?

Even if you have OTM or MAT you need som education to use it.

So, if you only should do some extension adds or changes, why not ony use a pc with hyperterminal and make those changes directly in the pbx?

Its not so difficult and you can do it with the same amount of education you need to user your OTM system.

YES, OTM can do other stuff too, but do you need it??

Yes. I like to do adds/changes and I'm just proficient enough to do it by command line. But if we're talking small dollars and it gives me the ability to do it from my desk and I can get statistics and other stuff....then it is dollars well spent.

Yet another problem is CORPORATE DIRECTORY. As far as I know there is only two ways to do it....MAT or OTM. My computer died and H have to upgrade. If I upgrade, I have to move to XP. As far as I know, MAT doesn't work on XP so, I think I'm forced into a corner with OTM. But if OTM is too expensive then I'll have to buy a cheap computer, load it with Win98 and dedicate it for MAT.

Other than that, it's simple.
