we are thinking of upgrading to tiger. we have one mac on panther and one one jaguar. the jaguar os has a lot of problems. we like the panther os.

does tiger work well with classic?

What about with programs photoshop 7.0, quarkxpress 6.5, illustrator cs.

thanks.

No. Panther is better with Classic. Is is ok, but I'd rather use Panther. What classic apps are you running?

Tiger is great with those apps listed.

I would move the jaguar to panther - tiger seems to be more resource intensive than panther and I'm not sure the extra features are worth the performance cost on older hardware.

Yeah, I'd stick with 10.3X, especially if the jagaur machine isn't that new.

I've never had one problem running Quark 4 or Dreamweaver 4 under classic in 10.3.9.

Any of the Adobe CS apps will run fine under 10.3 or 10.4

If you want to legal, here's where you can buy 10.3

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

Apols, must have been the beer. Best support of classic is 10.3. 10.2 is horrible and 10.4 is introducing loads of troubles.

I called apple. they do not sell panther. only tiger. so we ordered tiger. Our manager wants both machines to have the same o/s.
I hope we don't have more problems. I really like panther. when ordering tiger we received 90 days free support from apple.
the only thing we run on classic is outlook. our email.

If you have an Exchange Server and it is at 2003, that gives you a licence for Entourage which is OS-X not Classic. This will allow you to avoid installing Classic which will turbo charge your whole Mac.

If you need your email history (if you choose to move to Entourage) you can copy and move the Main Identity folder in your Microsoft Users folder. Then you can drop it in your new MS users folder on the X side of things.

Given that you are only using classic for email i would find a way around it. I have wheened all of my users (75 users) off of classic. They are much happier.

Everything will be OK in the end.
If it's not OK, then it's not the end

Even if you are buying Tiger, you can legally install and run any version below that one. Check on eBay for anyone selling Jaguar (10.3). Also, check at your local school system. If they buy Macs like we do, they have hundreds of system disks and should be able to sell you (give?) a 10.3 Disk to use. Just keep your documentation for the Tiger system purchase so you can still document your license.

I have a lab of computers that shipped with Tiger, and I upset my Mac teacher by forcing him to stay in Jaguar. I like the no problem Active Directory logins and stable Classic functions. He wants the "bells and whistles" but I don't want operational complaints so I won this battle for now.
