OSPF: Connecting One Area to Non-Backbone Area

Is it possible to have an area connected to another area that is not the backbone? Can you link multiple non-area's together? For example the following.

R1-----R2------R3-----R4
A0 A1 A2 A3

You can use virtual links to daisy-chain one area off another nn-backbone area. I don't believe you can kep daisy-chaining areas as you've suggested though - i.e. you are limited to one area connection into a non-backbone area.

I advise to seriously rethink your routing protocol usage instead of throwing hacks at it to 'make' it work..

I agree with BuckWeet. You should either re-think your routing protocol or re-think your network layout. For example:

Put "R3-----R4" both into A2 and remove A3.

Cisco doesn't recommend the use of virtual-links except in temporary cases.
