We have 50 users(their own username and password) existed in Active Directory to access the intranet site. But we need to authenticate only 20 users to access Cognos application with out entering their user name and password again since already they have entered into site with username and password. What way should I do it.
My doubts are :
1. OS Signon is only checks the Username and domain name of the user's system. (there is no word of "password" checking), but someone advised me to go for OS Signons. Is it works in this case ?
2. Even I checked with OS Signons, but it is not working. Again it prompts me to enter uname and pword. I followed each and everything what cognos doc is saying...

I would really appreciate if u give me the solution. Thanks in advance. My mailid is chitturivk@yahoo.com.

In your case, the OS signon in Access Manager should work.

A basic signon is maintained using Access Manager Administration. One has to provide a user id and password. The user must enter a valid ID and password during authentication before he can access reports.

For a OS Signon, only the valid domain and User ID is required. An OS signon uses the security of the operating system to give users access to reports without an additional password.

Try entering user id in the form domain\user ID.

Thanks for immediate response.
Access Manager needs the username (which user name here ? OS username or website user name). If it is OS username then how we can get that from user(becaz no one gives their security information). Application (Intranet site) user name is maintains by Active Directory, so I can add same user to my namespace.
Also I tried OS Signons as per the documentation. But it didn't works. Plz reply to this as soon as possible.

Thanks

An OS signon uses only OS userID. It is a pre-requisite that you get the user ID information from your domain administrator for every user that you wish to give access. There is no other way you can identify a valid user in Access Manager.

As I have said earlier, for every user, you have to provide this information in the form Domain/User ID.

I do not know if your problem has anything to do with your OS being Windows 2000. What I have said above should work for Windows NT.

If you youself are a member of the domain, you can test what I have said above using both basic signon and OS signon to find out where the problem is. Also make sure that your LDAP server is on.

Thanks for cleared my doubt.
I am giving OS Signons for windows 2000(IIS and Active Directory servers are installed here). I have done following steps.

1. IIS- Default Website- cognos -(cgi-bin) -login.cgi properties - File security -Anonymous access and authentication control - edit - cleared all check boxes except Integral Windows Authentication check box.

2. Windows Explorer - cer2/cgi-bin/(login.cgi) and (login.exe) properties - Security tab - add user - selected from our domain (cert.test) and user (vamsi)..gives full control... (There is no "Everyone" to remove).

3. Access Manager - Default (namespace) properties - signon tab page - selected OS Signons only option.
selected user properties and added OS Signon like (cert.test\vamsi)....

but it is not working. I am troubling since one week that how to apply security to my cognos application. Plz respond if u have time. Thanks much.

In my opinion, you seem to have done everything right so far and unfortunately it did not work.

You have not mentioned if you checked to see that your LDAP server was up. Are you using Netscape Directory Server?

Why don't you try basic signon and see if that works?

What Cognos Application and version are you trying to give users access to? I am not quite sure if the issue has to do with Windows 2000. I have not worked with Active Directory Server. I hope somebody else in this forum can throw some light if they had faced a similar situation.

I will keep researching this issue and will let you know if I come up with something.
