Hi

I have a K7VZA- ECS motherboard which i got as a bundle with 512mb pc133 SDRAM, i also got a cpu Duron 800 MHz. I have been having problems of it crashing and having to do a hard reboot.

The memory and the CPU dont seem to work together that well even though it does work but crashes 5 -6 times a day. I put in a friends pc100 memory stick and it worked fine. I was told if i got a CPU which ran at 133 i should not have a problem. IF this is true can anyone tell me what CPU i could get for this motherboard and how for future ref would i know what CPU i could get.

Also the FAN for the cpu, would my existing one be powerful enough and how do i know which fan to get when im buying one?

Thanks for any advice

Sounds like you have some bad RAM.
If there are multiple sticks of RAM, then try one at a time. If the problem surfaces with a particular stick installed, then run the system without it. If no problems, replace it. Go with quality from either Crucial, Corsair, or Mushkin.

You should be able to check your CPU's temp in BIOS. Do an intense application, like a game. Then, go into BIOS and check. If the CPU temp is 55 deg. C or less with an ambient of around 75 deg F, then the fan and heatsink are adequate.

Here's a link to a memory tester that may help...

I'd also check the motherboard mfr.'s site to see what memory is supported...

Did you buy from a dealer (probably not or you wouldn't be here!) that would listen to you?

Ski's post is spot on, too, don't skimp on the memory...Crucial is good for life...

When it's crashing are U getting a blue screen or is it just hanging up and freezing the screen. If It's the latter it sounds as though it's a similar problem to mine and I have the same motherboard.

Check out Random Lock-up of PC, which has been in the forum for a couple of days now under Glebbie. and let me know if it's a similar problem.

Lots of time motherboards do not like generic RAM.

ECS isnt the highest quality motherboard. It may be that some new RAM will fix you up. You might try RAM from they have a memory selector that lets you enter the motherboard and it recommends to you some RAM to choose from. Free Shipping normally!

If this was a bundle and they sent you the RAM as part of the bundle, check on the warranty. Usually withing 30 days they might do an exchange. Not all RAM is tested before they sell it! If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

thanks for your posts.
I ran that memory tester and it does seem like i have bad memory so im gonna buy some more. Unfortunately im not in the 30 day period so i cant return it.

Thanks for everyones help
