I have a user that wants eight staff members to report to both of two managers who, in turn, report to the CEO. (I'm in IS, so it's not up to me to determine HOW the business is run) However, how can you do this with Visio Organization Chart tools? It is set up to be one-to-one relationship, not many-to-many. How do I drag a Position to report to two managers?

I am looking for the answer to this too, so if I post here the message will be brought back to the top.

Hpefully someone has an answer?? :) _____________

I need this answer too! Has anybody ever figured this out??? It would be insane to say it's not possible, though I'm starting to think it's not...

Well, call me insane, but I don't think it is possible. At least, not using the org chart shapes. By it's nature, the org charts are hierarchical. You may be able to hack this by dropping a rectangular basic shape from the block diagrams stencil and connecting it manually, but you can only use this for visual presentation. If you are trying to capture org chart data in any way, it won't work.

Unless someone knows a way to do what you are looking for......

Seems to me that visio org chart only able to link one manager to many subordinates, and only one subordinate is attached to one manager.
I have manager position that consists of 2 people in this box. I arrange to combine the name of these managers. Silly, but it helps me solve the problem.

R,

I got this to work by first using the organisational stencils for my managers and staff, then I used the basic flow chart stencil and used the dynamic connection! Not sure if this what you wanted to achive?

I too, have this very requirement! Surely there must be a shape somewhere that has this feature...

Others have suggested the "Manual Line" approach, where the Line Tool is used to draw the relationship on the layer. The problem with that approach is that it is only good for visual presentation, as no actual connection exists between shapes.

Thanks and still listening,
