hey guys - i just got my msft press kit for the 2003. I am just looking for opinions on which exams you guys thought were the easiest and which book i should start off reading out of 70-290/291/293/294. Any help or additional resources that will make things easier or ease learning is appreciated of course :) thanks.

helpdesk2005,

I believe that most MCSE candidates take them in order: 70-290, 70-291, 70-293, 70-294, but there is no rule that you must do so.

I would suggest taking 70-290 before 70-291, as the 70-291 exam includes some of the same subject matter as 70-290, so knowing that material first will help with the 70-291 exam.

numerical order is usually best...

Yes, do them in order, works best!

291 is damn hard, but 293 covers 75% of 291 :)

thanks guys i will take your advice and take them in order ...anyone of u an mcse 2k3 by any chance?

I am, I actually tried taking my exams in order but in the end I did them this way.

270(P)- 290(F)- 290(F)- 291(F)- 290(F)- 293(P)- 294(P)- 298(P)- 290(P)- Sec+(P)- 291(P)- 299(P)

(P) is passed, (F) is failed. I actually found that 293 and 294 were relatively easy compared to both 290 and 291. I should also mention that when I failed the 290 exams it was always by 1 or 2 questions, the last time I took it and passed I passed with a score over 800. 291 was easy I just failed to revise anything to do with RAS and it was that I failed on.

Finally I have taken the new sim exams and as long as you know how to do the task you will be fine.

I'm MCSA 2003. Using the same system as SimonDavies, I did:

270 (P) - 290 (F) - 291 (P) - 290 (P) - 228 (P)

My first 290 fail was only by 6 marks, just like SimonDavies above.
I'm currently thinking about when to start studying for the 293 (I've recently passed 229 as well, so when I've got 293 I would get MCDBA status).

MCSE 2003 ... almost MCSE 2003 SECURITY

290 - 291 - 293 - 294 - 297 - 298 - 299 - 227 (working on it now...)

When this is done, i go for 284 and 285

When that's done, i'm gonna do the whole 2000-track ... i think ;-)
