What is the difference between varchar and varchar2.
What is the difference between Oracle 8i and 9i

varchar and varchar2 are the same. There is no difference

Regarding difference bet. different versions of oracle try downloading articles or if u want specifically then look in the manual for that from oracle's otn site.

For example if u would like to know diff. in SQL then u need to see the manual of SQL User's Guide or Reference manual.

They give u the differences as a separate chapter

You can see an overview of the 9i New Features from the OTN site (technet.oracle.com). Select documentation and choose the 9i documentation. The 9i documentation has a special section that summarizes the new features.

Hi udhay ,

varchar and varchar2 are the same but varchar is being retired from Oracle 8i onwards. From Oracle 9i and above varchar2 will be used. I am not sure whether varchar is being used in Oracle 8i but definitely not in Oracle 9i.
