I am trying to choose between the following books/cd; does anyone have any advice on these or other options?
I'm a beginner w/Oracle reports, will be using 6i. Am mid-advanced with Crystal/SQL.

Oracle Reports 6i book – I found it has pretty bad reviews and it takes 4 wks to get. $100

Oracle iDS Reports – Self study CD Course $360.

Oracle Developer Advanced Forms and Reports book – Just found this one at Borders. I went to the store just now to read a bit out of it. It seems ok, $60.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Well, since no one had any suggestions, I'll at least state what I picked out, in case some other newbie comes along...I LOVE talking to myself!

THe Oracle developer advanced forms and reports. Don't really care about the forms part, right now, but the reports part is pretty good. Very direct. In one day I went from being completely flummoxed over this oracle reports stuff to feeling like I could move around from screen to screen and get some stuff DONE.
I am still a little out of it with the formulas; I think I need a good book on pl/sql - any suggestions???
Right now it is forcing me to do all calculations in my queries, which is probably better anyway.
:)

hey there, I just found this site.. but I can give ya my two cents..

First of all buy your books at bookpool.com you will save lots of money, something like 40% less then anyone else..

Second if you are a newbe, you should get the Oracle Developer Starter Kit by Oracle Press, it covers all Oracle developer tools including reports, & pl/sql in great details.

Oracle Tips & techniques PL/SQL by oracle press has also been very helpful over the last 2 years that I have been developing oracle Forms & Reports.

If you start doing forms or want to give your users more control over there reports, which requires forms you might want to pick up Oracle Forms Developer Handbook by Lulusi

Hope this helps.... Chiere

Cool; the site looks very good. Thanks for the book suggestions, too.

Thanks for your helpful info.
I am learning Oracle9i reports and tried to download trial copy from oracle site, but it never downloads complete file(zip file) and thus I couldn't open the partially downloaded zip file...any ideas why is this?
Any useful info that help me get started w/ oracle rports will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Rahul

Well, I'd love to help, but I never tried dowloading the trial from Oracle.
Do you have a pretty fast connection? Sometimes if you have just basic i-net connection your isp may be set to disconnect you after a period of what it considers 'inactivity'. Have you noticed having to reconnect?
