all i want to do is change the report's title dynamically depending on the paramter list. For example let's say that i initiate a report by placing the parameter xyz into parameter field 1. i then want the report title to say abc (NOT XYZ) or if i enter i want to make the title state hsd. I am using 6i. i tried to locate to "caption" type property but i couldn't. then where would i put it...

please help oracle reports is driving me crazy...

Last time I did something similar in Oracle Reports was in version 2.5, so for whatever this still is worth currently: try to look up "Format triggers" (triggers that fire before an object is formatted for display) and "srw.set_field_char" (the package and specific function that allow you to set the value of a character field in such a trigger).

Do you need to GENERATE this report, or just DEVELOPE it? To develop it is quite easy: just create a text field and specify this parameter as datasource. Generating it from Designer is more tricky: I suppose you should create template with that parameter and that field. Regards, Dima
