Hi there,
Is it possible to install Oracle Client 8.1.7 on a Terminal Server?
I need to do this to give some of our remote branches access to the Oracle DB.
I tried to install it but it didn't work and Net8 wouldn't install.
However, the person who set up the Terminal Server made the system drive N:, with the C: drive as a mapped network drive to the %username%.
I'm thinking that either I screwed up the install or the server's config isn't compatible with Oracle.

Any help would be greatly welcome!

Thanks,
Tyrone

Hi.
Did you prepare your NT-session for installation before you tried (ask you sysadmin how,was for me:change user install)?
Worked ok for me on our Serverfarm.

Stefan

Stefan,

Thanks for responding.
Yes, I did prepare.
I am the Terminal Server Administrator, it's Oracle that's new to me.
Any thoughts?

Tyrone

Have a look at the logfile: installActions.log
(Usually in Program Files\Oracle\Inventory\logs).
Maybe you'll see there in detail what went wrong.

kingtyrone,
"Didn't work" is a little vague..What actually happened..What error messages, etc..

( If the PC has a Pentium 4 processor there is a known bug in the installer
- search these forums or google groups for
Pentium 4 in the comp.databases.oracle.* groups)

Stefan,
All I can see (with my untrained eye) is this:

Conflict while setting install type of "Net8 Assistant 8.1.7.0.0" to "Custom (Custom)". Install type already set to "Typical (Typical)". Seting it to "Custom (Custom)"

Turkbear,
I said "didn't work" because that's all I have. I don't use Oracle, and that's all the programmer that is going to use it said to me. Apparently when he tried to run Net8 it was just dead. No error messages or anything, just dead.
Also, it's a Compaq Proliant 5500, 4 way Pentium Pro 200MHz

I know it's not much but in the famous words from the Waterboy "you can do eet!"
