Hi,

I'm trying to install Oracle 9.2.0.1 on Windows2000 server. The first attempt was successful. When we had to change the machine name, we deinstalled Oracle, changed the machine name and attempted to install it for the second time. In the middle of running the second installation disk, it stalled. We had to cancel the installation.

When we tried to deinstall before running the installation again, the Universal Installer couldn't find any products to deinstall. We went ahead to run the installation again. Then we received error messages complaining about certain files when the installation disk tried to copy files over them. One example is ociw32.dll-access denied.

We have disabled all Oracle services on the server, and deleted the entire Oracle directory, which was created during the installation process. What else do we need to do without the Universal Installer? Do we have to delete things from the registry?

Thanks for any suggestion.

You do need to delete registry entries. I never trust Oracle deinstall process in Windows. It removes programs and files but leaves several references in the registry. The new install may still find them being used or locked or something.

Please refer to Oracle MetaLink doc ID 124353.1. If you don't has access to this, go into HKEY_LOCAL_MACHING/SOFTWARE and SYSTEM and delete Oracle references. There is a little more to it than this, but I bet this will do the trick.

Also, don't forget about the PATH environment variable. Sometimes if you have references to an old directory or Oracle Home it can mess things up too.

Hi,
In Windows the files have a habit of being locked by the app that uses them ( in this case Oracle) - be sure you have removed all Oracle Services, deleted the Oracle hive of the HKLM-Software registry and deleted the Inventory files from the C: drive..

Reboot and then confirm that the existing Oracle_home directory structure is gone ( do a search for that file ( ociw32.dll), for instance....

If all goes well, the reinstall should now work ( it becomes a new install, instead).

PS if file is there and refuses to be deleted, rename it..

Thanks. I had to go into the registry and delete everything that's under the key Oracle. Then reboot and reinstall again. This time it worked.

Thanks a lot!
