I'm new at this and wasn't able to find an answer from previous posts.

I have installed oracle 9i on my home PC(Win XP pro) and the setup connects to a remote database and all that works fine(no errors).

My questions is, can I install a local database on my machine and how / what do I need to do?

I had oracle 8 before and that had the local database that started up and shutdown as needed.
Thank you.

Hi,
Assuming you have the correct Oracle software ( not just the client) there should be a Database Creation Assistant in the Oracle program group..It will guide you thru it..

Thank you for the reply. It is my understanding that the software I installed only has the developer suite mainly the forms and reports is what I needed to work withfrom a remote database.
There was no mention of local databases and I cannot see anything like database creation assistant in the files I have. I am confident I only have the developer suite software and nothing else. Is it possible to get some software to create the local databases I require?

You may download Oracle database (licensed for developing) from technet.oracle.com. You may also work against non-Oracle database.
