Hi,
I have a map which extracts data from a queue and writes to a Oracle 9i database. I have Oracle 9i database on one machine and Mercator on another machine. Hence, I installed Oracle 9i client on the machine running mercator. This didn't work properly and after reading some stuff in the internet, found that Mercator doesn't support Oracle 9i fully and actually we need to have Oracle 8i on the Client Machine (which runs mercator). I did this (Oracle 9i server and Oracle 8i client) and the map ran without any problem.

But, when I tried to use this map in the integration flow designer and try to use it under the event server, it reports that it can't connect to the database. Any idea why I am getting this problem ?

Thanks,
Joseph

You should have no problem using Oracle 9i client, but you have to rename a Mercator Oracle library (see installation instructions).

As for the error, check the mapname.dbl file in your map directory (you might have to add the option -TE+ to your connect string) as you don't get the underlying Oracle error in the audit log / launcher.txt file.

9i clients are now available, check with your salesperson for access info.

Within the last week or two the official line from Mercator is that you need to run Oracle 8i Client version 8.1.7.4. And, depending on what version of 9i your running there may be an additional DB patch required.

I know that some people have been successfull with the 9i client and I ran it on a test machine with minimal problems. I did note however, the 9i client with the 9i DB incurred more connection failures.

As of last week there are new 9i clients for the platforms we did not have previously. If you are experiencing connection failures, you should report this to support with a data audit log and trace file.

josephp et all,

Which version of mercator are you running when you had this issue?
I've also experienced similar problem and was wondering if anyone has additional information.

Our mercator(v6.5) and database is Oracle 8174 and the database coexists with a few 9i databases. Therefore we have the 9i listener running for all the databases. However, when we run the 9i databases, mercator would sporadically report that it can't connect to the database. When we changed it back to 8174 listener, then all was fine again.
We have been running 9i listener in with 8174 database in development for a while and there's no problem there.????

Thanks,
lvly

6.5 does not support the new 6.7 Oracle 9i adapter.
