When i start SQL Plus, and i key in "scott" and "tiger", I am prompted to key in the oracle 8i startup password. Pls help to advice on this issue. Million thanks.

hi, i have tried the mentioned combination but to no avail.. it still asks for the oracle 8i password..
try manager or change_on_install --

After starting SQL/PLUS a pop-up window will appear.
The user name is : scott
The password is : tiger
The host string is :
Then you should get the SQL> prompt.
If this doesn't work then your database is probably corrupted and I would highly recommend to reinstall it.
