Hi,

I'm trying to install oracle 8i server on a AIX 5.1.
I've set the environment variables like ORACLE_SID and ORACLE_HOME in the .profile.
But after a while he says he cannot find the following file "/cdrom/stage/Components/oracle.rdbms.otrace/8.1.7.0.0/1/DataFiles/admin.0.0.jar". So I take a look and see that this file doesn't exist on the cd (second cd). so I skip this component and also some others.
Oracle Trace, Oracle Migration tool and Oracle Jserver are the components that I cannot install because he cannot find the files. At the end I get another error:"Error in invoking target ihsodbc of makefile /oracle/sys/v817/rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk"
The c-compiler is installed and functional.
Any guest what is wrong?

Not sure if this is related, but I had the devil of a job installing on a Solaris box because I was running the installer from the cd itself. Consequently when the install process was asking for the second disk, it was hanging because the installer essentially wasn't there. As far as I know this is a known 'feature' and the answer I found was to copy the contents of the cd into two directories in one of my filesystems and run the install from there. You might find more details (and probably a more detailed answer) in one of the Oracle forums on Tek-Tips. HTH - good luck.

Are you installing from command line or GUI?

You can't install from command line anymore from 9i and above

When installed, did you change your java path or just used default? I remembered if you used the default (actucaly it did not exist there), you would meet this kind of problem.

I'm installing from a gui.
I changed the java path.
