Sorry if this is being posted on the wrong part of the forum, but I couldn't find anywhere suitable.

We have a live system running Oracle 7.3.4. I need to reload the system onto a new server, but I don't have the original Oracle 7.3.4 cd's. (Oracle was installed by a 3rd party, and they never gave us the media!). We have paid for the relevant licences, so I'm not trying to be sly! It is causing a big problem for us, which I won't bore you with!

Question is, does anyone have a copy of Oracle 7.3.4 for Windows NT? Or does anyone know where I can download it from?

Anyhelp would be great!!

Thanks

Martyn

I own one copy of it, do you still need it? let me know.

Simone

I managed to get one from our suppliers, who should have given us a copy in the first place.

But thanks very much anyway.

I'm in the same boat. I just resurrcted an HP-UX systems but need to reinstall Oracle 7.3.4 but haven't been able to find a CD yet. ANy help any of you could provide would be great!

Thanks
Kurt

Also in the same boat, can anyone get me a copy of the oracle 7.3.4 cd for win NT? I am new to this forum so I don't know how you contact me without posting my email address, I will keep checking the forum. Thanks, Mike

Mike,

Since Oracle quit supporting version 7.x ages ago and precious few installations are still limping along with that version, could you please offer more insight to us as to why you want to install v.7.3.4 and why you cannot achieve your objectives with something fresher?

I managed to get one from our suppliers, it was just a bit of a misunderstanding. If you have Oracle support they can send them direct too.

If you need a copy let me know.

Cheers

Hi Dave, I am an IT consulant in Los Angeles. I have a new client that is moving off of an accounting program that runs on Oracle. The current IT has never upgraded them and really, the system was static and didn't need to be upgraded.

The problem is that now they want to go to a new accounting software and I need to extract their data. I did not want to do it on their live system so I was going to restore a backup onto one of my servers and do ODBC to extract the necessary data. Thus, I would need Oracle 7.3.4 to restore to. Unless you can tell me a better way to do it.

thanks,

Mike

Mike,

It seems like the "parallel universe" is a lot of extra work. Can you not just create your ODBC connection to their existing database/instance? Since the extraction is read-only, I shouldn't represent much stress on their system.

You don't need to install Oracle 7.3.4 to create a test environment for this conversion. An Oracle export from a 7.3.4 database can be imported into a database running a later version of Oracle. In fact, that was our strategy years ago when we upgraded from Oracle 7.3.4 to 8.0.6. We created an 8.0.6 instance ahead of time and, when we were ready, exported all the data from the production 7.3.4 database and imported it into 8.0.6.

Naturally, your situation is a little more complex, but I would seriously consider this approach rather than trying to lay your hands on an old 7.3.4 install CD. I checked the compatibility matrix, and exports from 7.3.4 can be imported into Oracle 9i and earlier releases. (Please note that 7.3.4 exports CANNOT be imported into Oracle 10g).

Trying to create a working 7.3.4 so many years after it became obsolete is bound to create major headaches. Among other things, you will be VERY lucky if it runs on today's operating systems. I would look at alternatives rather than buying trouble for yourself.

Hey, that worked. thanks Karluk. I have one other small problem. when I restored the 7.3.4 dump to 9i it would not restore and said that it was skipping tables. so I modified my imp to include fromuser touser both set to system and then there were no more errors and it completed. The problem is that when I odbc in using "system" I cannot see the tables from the import file. I only see the tables that I assume are standard to the Oracle schema. (I am not an oracle person, mssql is my bag) How can I tell if the data is there and how can I get at it using odbc? I tried both the oracle odbc and ms odbc drivers. One other thing, in the export log file it looks like the data belonged to a username of "LI". I tried creating one but still no luck seeing the data.

thanks,

Mike

Your problem isn't particularly minor, since it appears that you never imported the data you're interested in. If you have a "fromuser=system" clause, you will only get system's tables imported. That does you no good at all if the data belongs to a user named "LI". You need a "fromuser=li" clause instead.

Are you aware that you should use the 7.3.4 version of the export utility, but when you import you should use the 9i version of the import utility?

Can you give more detail about the errors you were getting during the import? What is the error number and associated message? If it's while importing LI's tables, you will need to figure out what is going wrong and fix the errors.

Hi, thanks again for the input. I am using the 9i import utility since I could never find the cds for 7.3.4. The data is on the 7.3.4 server now so the export is using that utility. Maybe a better/easier course would be to odbc to the existing 7.3.4 NT server. Do I need to load the 7.3.4 client on my laptop and then the odbc drivers for 7.3.4 or will the 9i client and odbc connect to the 7.3.4 data?

If you think I should continue with the 9i server, here is the info you asked about. When I import using the fromuser=LI, I get the messages that it is skipping tables. there is no error number. My import line is as follows:
imp system/manager@db1 file=exp_bak.dmp show=y log=implist.log fromuser=LI touser=system.

The import log shows this:
"CREATE TABLE "ADDRESS" ("CITY" VARCHAR2(40), "COUNTRY" VARCHAR2(40), "FAX" "
"VARCHAR2(15), "LOCATOR" VARCHAR2(8), "PHONE" VARCHAR2(15), "PROVINCE" VARCH"
"AR2(40), "STREET_1" VARCHAR2(255), "STREET_2" VARCHAR2(255), "STREET_3" VAR"
"CHAR2(255), "STREET_4" VARCHAR2(255), "POSTAL_CODE" VARCHAR2(12), "CHANGE_D"
"" DATE, "CHANGE_U" VARCHAR2(3), "ADDR_ORIG" VARCHAR2(4), "PHONE_2" VARCHAR2"
"(15), "PHONE_3" VARCHAR2(15), "EMAIL" VARCHAR2(255)) PCTFREE 10 PCTUSED 40"
" INITRANS 1 MAXTRANS 255 STORAGE(INITIAL 512000 NEXT 20480 MINEXTENTS 1 MAX"
"EXTENTS 121 PCTINCREASE 20 FREELISTS 1 FREELIST GROUPS 1) TABLESPACE "LITS_"
"DATA""
. . skipping table "ADDRESS"

"GRANT ALTER ON "ADDRESS" TO PUBLIC"
"GRANT DELETE ON "ADDRESS" TO PUBLIC"
"GRANT INDEX ON "ADDRESS" TO PUBLIC"
"GRANT INSERT ON "ADDRESS" TO PUBLIC"
"GRANT SELECT ON "ADDRESS" TO PUBLIC"
"GRANT UPDATE ON "ADDRESS" TO PUBLIC"
"GRANT REFERENCES ON "ADDRESS" TO PUBLIC"
"ALTER SESSION SET CURRENT_SCHEMA= "LI""

the export log from 7.3.4 shows this:

About to export specified users ...
About to export LI's objects ...
. exporting snapshots
. exporting snapshot logs
. exporting job queues
. exporting refresh groups and children
. exporting database links
. exporting sequence numbers
. exporting cluster definitions
. about to export LI's tables via Conventional Path ...

etc. for a lot of tables, so I assume that the tables belong to LI. is that correct? Does that mean that I need to log into the odbc driver as LI to see these tables? I created a user named LI, I tried the odbc and got the same system tables. Since I am new to Oracle, maybe I created LI wrong. How should I create the user LI? What would be the exact steps to take?

thanks a million,

Mike

I think your problem is the "show=y" parameter in the import. That parameter means to just display the contents of the export file without actually doing any loading. If you remove the parameter completely, your import will most likely work.

Incidentally, I trust that your 9i database is not used for anything besides this one project. Is that right? It's not good practice to put application data into the system schema, but in your case it may be o.k.

That worked Karluk, thanks again. the import showed all of the tables being imported and I can see them using SQL. But as usual I still have an issue, the odbc still only sees the system tables. the imported tables that I see in sql are not visible using odbc.

Any more help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,

Mike

Do I have a priviledges problem to those tables? what command do I need to use to grant access to everything for that system user? Do I do it through SQL and which user do I log into SQL as?

thanks,

Mike

We are running an old version of ADP, we only use it for historical data because we have since moved to peoplesoft. The server lease is up on the ADP server and we need to return it but need to transfer the data to a new machine. I have the ADP disks but need Oracle 7.3 v2.5 in order to install and migrate the software. Does anyone have a source to purchase the 7.3cd?

hey if anyone owns Oracle of Seasons can you post it or send the link to

BD,

Although I worked for Oracle for 63 dog years and have used Oracle heavily for the 9 years since then, I have never encountered the term "Oracle of Seasons". Could you please tell us more of your need and what "Oracle of Seasons" is?

I also need the Oracle 7.3.4 installatio package to add an option to my database. Long time ago when last used.
So, is there a place in the internet from where i can download the software?

Thanks

Maria
