I downloaded 10g from Oracle download site.

Everything installed fine. I created a DB and loaded it with data. I went to Net Manager and setup my listener. When I try to set and test my service I get the 12541 error listener not found error. I went to my computer's services and there was no Oracle listener listed.

Am I out of luck? Did I miss something? Can I add the listener service?

I have to start lsnrctl, and start it via /etc/init.d/oracle , but cannot remember if it was described in the howto-install files, or whether it's my own script (or a modified one).

Assuming you run it on linux :) .
For other OS you might need to open 'services' and find it there, click 'start', or select 'enable' to have it started automatically on boot.
