ORA-12705: invalid or unknown NLS parameter value specified

This is our first shot at upgrading 9.2 to 10.1 and I see this when attempting to connect brtools, namely brbackup and brarchive. The parameter in .dbenv looks fine to me:

ORA_NLS10=$ORACLE_HOME/nls/data; export ORA_NLS10
NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8DEC ; export NLS_LANG

Already tried the old ORA_NLS33, no good. Any ideas?

Check your v$nls_valid_values

I find WE8DEC in v$nls_valid_values. The backup works great if I export NLS_LANG=AMERICAN_AMERICA.US7ASCII, but we don't want that. We want WE8DEC.

Do you have multiple Oracle homes?
