Ora-01034: Oracle not available
Ora-27101: Shared memory realm does not exist.
Why am I getting these error messages whenever I attempt to log on to Oracle.
The database is set to start automatically whenever the system boots up yet I have to always manually start it.
Any suggestion on how to fix it?
Thanks,
toaft

Can you check the oratab? If you are using UNIX, check if the ORACLE_HOME is properly written in the oratab file.

or you can review metalink note:122183.1 to troubleshoot your problem.

.. also check if the ORACLE_SID is properly set in the oratab file.

Do you have several versions installed in your server?

hi...
If u r using NT, delete SID and SRVC and recreate instance using oradim80(oradim in 8i).

oradim80 -new -sid <sid> -intpwd <pw> -startmode <auto | manual> -pfile <pfile path>

Regards,

Kumar.

Thanks everyone for your input.
Kummi, your feedback is more useful only because I use NT.
My follow-up question is how do I delete instance?
Do I use instance manager to delete and recreate?
Thanks,
