The Norstar system is set this way:
-calls to my extension fwd no answer/fwd on busy to another extension.
-if that ext isn't answered or busy, it redirects to my voicemail.
I'm getting complaints that people can't get through if the two of us are away from our desks or busy.
My question is: Is it possible to set up the auto attendant to have the option of going to VM or holding until one of us is free? Having dealt with our system, I don't think it's possible. Anyone?

you can configure the Auto Attendant to transfer directly to a mailbox using CCR (say press 1 to leave a message). I don't think you can set up a hold option.

I haven't tried it yet but you could conceivably record in your personal mailbox.....
"hi, I'm currently on the phone, please press * 707 (hunt group DN) to continue to hold or leave a message after the tone."
Obviously you would have to build a hunt group and put the two of you in it etc etc.

Now, it will not distinguish between whether you just cannot answer the call or aren't there. The call will still go to voicemail as the first part of your senario, it will just give them another opportunity to continue to ring you.

Norstar systems are designed for calls to be answered by something being a live person or Voice mail - the only way to make the system hold a call until someone is available is to load acd onto a Nam - You could try to set up the hunt group which is basically poor mans acd, because once you set up the hunt group this does not affect the fwd no answer or the fwd on busy. Hope this helps

If you have a CICS and are a very small office you could use the built in CICS answer, this answers lines and puts them on hold until the attendent is available. What is the SP version of your system? JerryReeve

I'm not sure. Any ideas where I would find it? This location inherited the phone system from our HQ before I started here. I found some manuals about 6 months in, but I'm not 100% they're the correct ones. The books say Norstar-PLUS Compact ICS 2.0
We have 10+ extension, plus 2 mobile using 5 lines.

the feature i was thinking of is called system answer and from the docs I have it looks like it only showed up on rel 4.0. sorry. If you have a flash voicemail you could upgrade it to the flash acd software though. JerryReeve
