option 81 to Octel

Hi everyone
Here is my situation,
I work for a telco, they want to retire the audix voice mail system and use their customer based Octel at the CO.
The op81 and Octel are on opposite sides of the city, is it possible to do this and have message waiting lites be turned on and off on digital sets.My understanding is that you need a digital interface to the octel to accomplish this, not being at the same site is it possible to do this with ie:lines side t-1,smdi link or some other kind of link like qsig. I appreciate any input

Hi there,

You are correct that a digital link is required to the Octel System via the CO Switch. This digital link should have a D-channel to enable the message waiting lights to switch on/off. Therfore, a linside T1 would not achieve the result you are looking for, however a QSIG connection or PRI ISDN circuit would be fine as they both provide D-channels.

another option is to add a fiber or t1 remote to the far end, then use just the digital sets as an interface, older octel's did not use a dch for control, they used interface boxes that were modified 2616's.. haven't done that interface with an aml to mail, on the money side a call pilot would cost about the same as a remote ipe.. the remote ipe would make co-location of digital sets possible..

They have an option 11 at the switch site, I guess I could beef it up and use it to do the mwi stuff

right if the opt 11 has a pri back to the 81, then by adding mwk to the rcap on the d, it will light remote lamps, very do-able... we have remote 11's with mwi off of the MM here at my 81 site, also add nd3 to rcap and you'll see user names
