The PBX at old release 21.54 does not haveCaller ID capabilites. I was told it was very costly to upgrade in addition to have 2 PRI T'1s. Is this a major upgrade for software and hardware? This company is sales driven and highly pressured no downtime during any business days or any compassion for upgrade problems.
I appreciate any guidance in this area.

you need the upgrade because your getting very close to a non surportted rls.. in the future when you have problems, nortel or the vendor may not work on that product. the only recourse "could" be install a new switch while sales wait. not a pleasent thought.. upgrade takes about an hour with a few minutes down time.. i've done hundreds and several were at places like the one i work now, 7 by 24 (hosp). 21 will support pri, if you have the packages. they are standard packages in later rels switches... i've told management that not upgrading the switch would be the same as using a 10 year old pc, it doesn't save money..

The vendor did mention that the release is pending on no support in the near future. The system was bought as-is with no packages years ago. Back to major reasons to upgrade, thank you.

What is the switch type? As long as you don't have alot of single and double density loops the cost isn't that bad. If you are on an XT or NT using SL1 sets then it will be expensive to upgrade. How much is CLID worth to them? Another question to ask them is how important is dial tone. If the system isn't supported by the manufacturer, which 21 is no longer supported and hasn't been for years, then if anything goes bad you may not be able to get replacement parts. I hope you have alot of string and cans in that case.
