We're looking for something quite simple (in our minds) that no one seems to be able to help with. We want a human readable map / report of what our phone system looks like. I am aware of MAT and it's replacement - Avant I think it's called, which may do the job but for the $, it's not worth it.

Aren't there some commands that can dump the info we need and some homegrown tools to parse the results into something human readable - or even a 3rd party front-end to do just that? I've downloaded all the spreadsheets from Dave Higham and GHTROUT but still not really what we need. They are a start but still quite basic.

Are we asking too much or being too simplistic?

I've played with some of the commands on our phone system and it's unbelievable to me that a system would be so archaic (and continue to be so archaic).

otm is the only gui interface i am aware of and no the system does not lend itself to someone walking by and glancing at the screen. i build interfaces in excel macro or aspect script but not uuer friendly. working on one in java, but not for general release.

There is a gui called 'phonemaster', the company are based in Ireland.

If you persist a little with the CLI you can obtain all the info you need, eg : trunk details, phone details, etc. I don't know how familiar you are with the CLI but it took me a good few weeks to get my head around it (I hear you on the 'archaic' call!). I'd just start with ld20 -> prt --> tnb and get all the tn's that are connected, and parse the info from there.

If you have any knowledge of the expect language (it's pretty easy from a sys admin point of view!) you can script up things to collect your data daily and parse it however you like.

I don't think you're gonna get a *real* easy fix though.
