I need to replace the UPS batteries for my Option 11 system and was wondering if there was a "proper" way of turning off the system.

Thank you,
Bret

How would I find out what version? Sorry, dumb question for phone guru, but I'm the typical netowrk admin who got stuck doing the phone system support.

As Rick's tread suggests you can go the whole hog backing up B4 throwing the cabinet breakers - but you dont have to, the battery (as long as it's a Nortel Option 11 specific <ugly battleship grey things>) will have a breaker of their own, of course do a dump/back-up the Mail if you wish then follow the proceedure as specified in :Option 11C Fault clearing Guide Document Number: 553-3011-500, chapter 17: Replacing Equipment, Replacing batteries in the NTAK75/76 Battery Box - The sam also holds for the even uglier/even bigger QBL24's.

Go on, you know you want to!

Sorry I forgot: Battery box will have the NT number printed on them in a prominant place.

Thanks for the info guys. My battery is a Alpha CFR 1500. Looks like a server box - nothing fancy. Holds 4 batterys and has an external cab. with more batteries. Figured I'd shut down system, take off the external cab. and do another test. Hopefully that's where the bad batteries are. If not, will have to purchase a 4 of them for the main capinet. Cheap though, $87.00 from Granger. Williams Comm. said they won't even support it now and could only replace whole UPS for lots of $$.

Bleedin 3rd party batts....still you should be able to change them out without powering the system down (don't you get the feeling I want you to give it a try?)

Yes, I wish I could change without sutting down. But no luck with this setup, unless I want to get a nice shock.
