Greetings,

My tech is upgrading our Option 11 from 25.40 to release 5.0 and is having problems archiving the data. To prevent another upgrade outage can he test this upgrade in the lab by remotely retrieving the database and using the new daughterboard? He indicates this is not possible and it must be done onsite.

Thanks

Are you upgrading to CPPM call server, or staying with SSCs?

If you are going with CPPM, then this could absolutely be done either off-site, or on-site, as the hardware with the current database would be changed out. If that is the case, then going back to the existing configuration is simple in case of problems with the database.

What exactly is the problem you are having archiving the existing database?

I think it has to be on-site, connecting to tty 0, ld 143 upgrade and then archive the customer database.

you can do it IF you have a special "golden" dongle that nortel does provide for upgrades... some larger providers offer that as an upgrade option

Thanks - staying with the SSC and will check about the golden dongle.

TSIjon...make sure your tech has the terminal plugged
into tty 0 like 9201 said ld 143 opt 3 utilities
then opt 2 archive database the 5.0 upgrade will do
the conversion on the database for you.

no problems only solutions

Thanks re TTY. Question how much free space is required on the PCMCIA card for the conversion?

TSIjon...the archive database is more or less CYA its
for you to restore from in case the upgrade fails.the
great thing about this upgrade if your tech does the
homework and read the procedure its a no brainer the 5.0
will convert the database thats already on the ssc drive
you will never have to use the archive it converts it
for you.

no problems only solutions

You should be fine upgrading from Rlse 25 as this was only only release that Nortel would support for upgrading to Succession, although it has been done OK with older versions.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

what is the problem he is encountering in archiving database?we cant analyze as we dont know what exactly the problem is.

I am waiting to hear back from the vendor - first they indicated they could not do a backup however I had no problem doing and "EDD" and "BKO". I suspect I am dealing with an inexperienced tech with no second level support.

Thanks
