We have an IP office 500 system here, we currently all have 5410 phones and we have a few 5420 phones in the box still. We have one sales guy who wants to have a phone in his home office and have it appear as if he is in the building (transfer calls, ring on the hunt group, etc) From what I understand (which I admit isn't all that much) I need to create a VPN Tunnel. One issue is when he went to try to get a static IP address his service provider said that it would force him to get a "business" account and an extra $200 a month...

What other options do we have?

Ok got the process started buying the V7 upgrade. Wasnt too bad I guess at $250ish

I do have a friend who has a 5610 phone he said that we could test it with.

The rep we got the upgrade from also told us we could use a free account with dyndns.org to give the remote user a simulated static IP. he also said that the ASA5505 shouldnt be an issue. Since we are using the dyndns would we still have to worry about VPN software? if so what should we use?

is there a overview of the steps that are involved in implementing this?

I literally just finished this very second configuring two 5621's behind a cisco asa 5505 with a system running 5.026

works like a champ licenses are like 40 dollars a piece US$ msrp

you don't need to upgrade to R6 or R7 however if you are going to be adding multiple ip handsets then it would be a good idea

Wow really? Hmm I think we may end up having a total of maybe 4.

Can you walk me throgh how you did that? Is there a big difference between 5610 and 5621?

We did just end up upgrading to 7

I am in the middle of configuring the ASA 5505 with the help of the document here:
Now I get a little confused when it comes to setting the default route (page 17)

it says The IP
address of 195.2.2.1 is the ISP next hop router as shown in Figure 1.

Should i do a tracert and find out what my next hop is?

I think I got it, I had the next hop already in there
