My upgrade to a new motherboard and cpu/ram is as follows:
ASUS P4G8X
Intel P4 2.4 GHz 533FSB CPU
(2) 512 MB DDR-333 RAM
New PS rated at 365 Watts

I currently have an ASUS CUV4X
with a Intel PIII 933 with 1 Gig of ram.

Think it's worth the change and trouble?

It's pretty much your call, no one can say what this is worth to you. (I do this type of upgrades all the time when I get bored with my system but that's just me)[smile]

I just need a little more power and speed to do some of my video work and web sites. I have another thread about changing out the motherboard without having to re-install windows. Ever done that? Sure would save me time not to have to re-install all my software....I know I have too many toys and tools.

With that new configuration above, you're going to have WAAAAAY more than a LITTLE power and speed. You'd better invest in a racing harness for your chair!!!!! As to the second part of your question............. Works okay with IDENTICAL mobo, otherwise NO WAY. Fresh install OS and software programs. Data can be saved and re-loaded.

Go to this link and compare the PIII 1.0G to the 2.4G:

If it was me I would overclock the hell out of it just for fun and too see what I can get out of it and how long it would last. I did that with my AMD K7 750mhz and it was fun while it lasted (lasted meaning untill I really, really needed an upgrade)

Taken from a post by Comtech... which should put this in a FAQ...make it alot easier to find...lol

There is no need to format and reinstall.
If you are taking an existing install of 95, 98, or ME, and moving the drive to another system, there's a simple way to get it all to work.
Check this out: Note: this does NOT work in NT/2K/XP!
There is a completely different procedure to follow, which is outlined here: Cheers,
Jim

Will give it a try....sounds logical. Thanks for the tip.

I would put it in a FAQ, but nobody ever seems to read them. ;-)

Cheers,
Jim
