Hi everyone,

I'm just starting out on my CCNA in fact I'm looking at making a career change and will at some point continue on to CCNP, I've been searching and reading and I was wondering what you guys thought of this setup on ebay.My plan will be to add better equipment over time, as my skill increases but I'm getting some classroom training later in this month and would like to get up and running before that so I can make the best of the teachers and training. Is this setup worth 500? Is it ok to have only one router with 12.4? Also I did some work for a startup that fell though and they paid me partially in equipment, So I have a cisco catalyst 4507r that's been sitting in a closet for almost a year now. will I be able to use this in my ccna studies?

Thanks in advance.

Billy,

You are getting as bad as me, I just pulled up my inventory list in Access - I have 30 Cisco routers, 15 Cisco switches and 21 Cisco hubs. But I have been at this since 1999 :)

I think my next big purchase will be a laptop or a notebook laptop.

CiscoGuy, think you just proved your geek status....having your cisco inventory in an Access database. Nicely done.

lerdalt,

Since so much of it is at the school, I assign an inventory number of the year and month I bought it and then 001, 002, 003.... depending on what I bought in a month so if I bought something today it would get the number 0903001.

I print YELLOW tags with my name and the inventory number and put 3-5 tags on each item, no doubt what is mine when the college does inventory :)

This number is the key in the database for each item, I also list model, serial number, where I got it, where it is located etc. I have a bunch of computers, about 10-15, mostly older Gateways that I was using for Microsft training BC (Before Cisco) as well as some other IBM MAUs, Bridges, DSU/CSU units etc. So the database includes EVERYTHING for my own "paper trail".

Once again, best way to learn stuff is to use it. They teach database classes and students create a database with like 5-10 names but can not see the use since with 5 names you can find what you need by looking at the table !!!! I said we should give the students a DB with 5,000 names and let them do querries etc. on that, then they would understand the power of a DB and how to search it!!!

Same thing for Cisco labs - see it, feel it, experience it!!

Yes, I am a GEEK!!!! However, let me point out that I have NEVER had custom paint mixed for Cisco colors...... just thought about it once :)

I have the following in my personal lab. I won't mention what I have in my lab at work. :)

13 2611's maxed out with various interfaces
4 3640's maxed out with various interfaces
2 1760V maxed out running CME 4.0
2 3560G-24
2 3550PWR-24
2 2950G's
1 4215
2 5510 Sec Plus
2 506e's
1 3005
1 3002

Then I have ACS, UCM 6, and UCM 7, and Unity running on a server in Vmware.

Usually I don't even take the time to cable my lab up for exercises I just merely use Proctor Labs cause its so cheap. Besides that it is more like the CCIE lab than anything.

I will be there one day... LoL
