Hello all,
Just about to upgrade my home system and wondered if there was any prevailing opinion about what type/brand of motherboard to use.

Personally I perfer using AMD processors in my home system, and the system sees heavy internet and grapics use as I am a bit of an online Game junkie. I will be recycling my vid card (geForce3 mx200) and sound card (soundblaster live platinum) and network card ( if the motherboard does not come with one installed) intel 10/100pro. I will also by the proper ram/cpu for the new MB.

Ta!
Thanks
Steve

Asus has another motherboard even more radical built on the Intel E7205 chipset. It uses Dual DDR PC2100 Memory and about the same extras on the motherboard. It isnt out yet but it looks fantastic. Can use up to 4 GB of Memory.

I saw a test of this board's memory and it got similar marks to RHAMBUS RAM. If you do not like my post feel free to point out your opinion or my errors.

I had been leaning toward the Abit AT7 MAX2 good to see anotyher user seems to think its a good board. does any one here have/use this board? have any negative comments about it?
Steve

about that Asus P4PE/L, i don't think our O/S are any where around ready to use that "Hyper-Threading Technology" yet. and i m very disappointed that Asus don't suppot Ultra ATA-133 or raid on board.

I know there's board our there already support ATA-150.
but Asus P4PE/L is definetly a solid performer. $125 hmmmmmm,

We use the Abit AT7 Max2 in our "ultimate system" and it is a cracking board, only downside is the price.
If money were no object then this or the Soyo KT400 Dragon Ultra would be my Socket A choice.
Of course there isn't anything in the performance between all the KT400's, what makes the differance is the EXTRA'S
and the Soyo has the edge.
The Abit has that solid feel of reliability and every overclocking feature under the sun, it also has the better Highpoint raid controller compared to the lower featured Promise.
Whichever you choice you won't go far wrong.
