other question is Which platform is batter, Windows 2000, Sun Solaris 8 or HP-UX.

b) Sun Blade 1000, UltraSpare III 750Mhz, 2GB RAM. SUN Solaris 8

c) HP C3650, RISC-8700 625Mhz, 2GB RAM. HP-UX 11.0

What do you think of this spec of Workstation ? which is Batter?

Hello coinspeed,

It depends on you current env. Is it mixed (hetro) or all Unix based systems.

What will be the arch? Will it be Distributed or Centralized?

Will the operators be using Remote Consoles? If yes, then from which platform (NT or UNIX)?

How many operators will be accessing the Map at a Time? More the # of open maps, more resources will be required.

All of the specs metioned by you should be able to handle the load. If you plan to put it on Windows Platform, just double the Memeory.

You should also keep future expansion in mind.

Thanks,

Gyan

Hi there coinspeed, keeping in mind the number of nodes to manage and keeping this as an scalable solution, try to go for a server with HP-UX 11.X

Also, try to buy a server instead of workstation, doing so, you may forget about the number of operators interacting with NNM/HP-OVO, etc...under regular config/oper conditions.

I´ve got an HP-L1000 managing more than 200 nodes with
360 MHZ x 2 proc
2 disks - 16 GB each (mirroring).
And the uptime is 380 days so far, without performance/applicat problems yet...(make sure you properly configure the kernel initially to prevent problems once it is fully productive thus...)
