Hello,

i try to upload (wit FTP) firmware from SIP (at Siemens OpenStage 40) to HFA version and it is not possible, phone writes Transfer failed.
i tested it on more phones and it seems to be same, do you know some tip how to that? Why there is problem transfer from SIP to HFA, but HFA -> SIP working well.

SIP version V3 R3.32.0
HFA version V3 R0.16.3

Thank you.

In my experience the most common reasons to get a Transfer Failed message are that you have not specified the filename in the phone exactly as it is on the FTP server, or you have not properly specified the directory. When I name my firmware files I make sure the names are all in lowercase or numbers with no spaces or strange characters - it makes it much easier to enter it in the phone if you are using the keyboard. Since you are already doing HFA to SIP I would put the SIP file in that same directory and then specify the parameters the same way you do when doing HFA to SIP.

Other reasons can be an interruption in the FTP connection due to a network glitch or something. Unify/Siemens actually prefer that you transfer firmware with SFTP protocol if possible because it is more reliable or stable or something. It could also just possibly be a bad download of the software from wherever you got it.

Those are a couple of places to start looking.

Also rename the img file to something easier like a short name.
Some of the files have the underscore character which might not be seen.
Normally I just right mouse click on the file that is to be sent to the phone and click rename.
Then instead of rename I copy the file name.
Paste it into the FTP area of the phone and attach on dot img at the end and it works.

I try to change name of file but it not helps, definitely there must be something in new firmware or phone which not allow to downgrade firmware version because:

SIP V3 R3.36.0 -> SIP V3 R3.32.0 working
SIP V3 R3.32.0 -> SIP V3 R3.36.0 working
SIP V3 R3.32.0 -> SIP V3 R3.17.0 Transfer failed
SIP V3 R3.32.0 -> HFA V3 R0.16.3 Transfer failed
HFA V3 R0.16.3 -> SIP V3 R3.32.0 working

Have you read the relevant release notes.
Here is an extract.

2.5 Special settings and instructions
2.5.1 Migration from OpenStage HFA to OpenStage SIP
1. Load the SIP software to the phone.
2. Perform a factory reset.
3. Configure the phone as a new SIP device.
For details, please refer to the administration manual.

Just an add-on for what it's worth... HFA V3 R0.23.0 is the current HFA firmware to the best of my knowledge. Avoid HFA V3 R0.18.0 as it is known to brick phones (boot loop).

you can try to use the DERT Tool (device emergency rescue tool)

I am trying to do the same like the OP, but seem to be failing because of the big firmware gap. The Release Notes tell me I need to upgrade to a V2R2 first (running a V2 R0.80.2 HFA here). I found a thread here on the forum where sbcsu linked a V2R2, but the dropbox link is broken already, so I kindly ask for a repost of a V2R2 firmware.

Thanks

you need to update first to V2 R1.5.0, then you can safely update to V3..
just put into google: OS_40_HFA_V2_R1_5_0.img

I'm expiriencing the same problem:
SIP V3 R3.36.0 -> HFA V3 R0.23.0 Transfer failed

File is transfered to phone without problems, ftp server says:
(000013)31.07.2015 13:51:09 - anonymous (192.168.23.148)> RETR OS_60_HFA_V3_R0_23_0.img
(000013)31.07.2015 13:51:09 - anonymous (192.168.23.148)> 150 Opening data channel for file download from server of "/OS_60_HFA_V3_R0_23_0.img"
(000013)31.07.2015 13:51:22 - anonymous (192.168.23.148)> 226 Successfully transferred "/OS_60_HFA_V3_R0_23_0.img"
(000013)31.07.2015 13:51:22 - anonymous (192.168.23.148)> QUIT
(000013)31.07.2015 13:51:22 - anonymous (192.168.23.148)> 221 Goodbye

But directly afterwards the Phone and WEBM say: Transfer failed.

Can anybody share the DERT tool?

Thanks

Converting a phone from SIP to HFA
Download 3C Daemon Here
Install to Windows 7 PC or similar
Allow Firewall access or when updating phones turn off the Windows Firewall
Connect SIP phone to your DHCP Providing router
Connect Laptop/PC to your DHCP Providing router
Or else connect back to back using a fixed IP address on each.
Power up phone using a PoE injector or PoE switch/router
Setup a new folder on your PC C:\FTP
Copy the software to that folder
Create a new user on 3C Daemon on the FTP server
example User = user
Password = password
Tick all bottom boxes to allow that user upload/download etc
set the password for that user to be 'password'
Log on to the phone using address of phone
Administrator password 123456

File Transfer/Phone Application
Download Method: FTP
FTP Server Address: IP of 3C Daemon or similar FTP Server
FTP Server Port: 21
FTP Username: user
FTP Password: password
FTP Path: . (Full Stop/period)
Filename: DPIP_55G_HFA_V3_R0_23_1.img (or what ever the application is called in your C:\FTP folder)
After submit: do nothing - then click on submit
Change After submit to: start download
then click on submit.
Application will be downloaded by phone from your 3C FTP server
After submit: start download

Wait for 'Transfer completed successfully'
File should have been transferred by the 3C Daemon
Then phone will reboot twice.
When changed to HFA do a factory default
(Administrator/Maintenance/Factory Default) Password 124816
