OpenSSL under openserver 5.0.5

I'm trying to compile OpenSSL 0.9.6d under SCO OpenServer 5.0.5. When i run ./configure i get an error at the end saying it was able to dectect the compiler, but doesn't know how to enable multithreaded processing. I don't even know how to determine what compiler is on my system (I'm assuming its default) let alone what commands are used to enable this option. I'm a newb still. Any help would be greatly appreciatied.

I've resolved this issue, but now i have a new issue. I get a fatal error saying that -lresolv can't be found. I can't find info on lresolv anywhere. It's some libraray from something, but what? anyone?
