Hi,

I need to open a word document as read only through a shortcut. Does anyone know the command line I need to use. I`ve currently got the line setup as

"c:\word.exe" "C:\wordDoc.doc"

What parameter and where do I place it to make the file open as read-Only?

Thanks in Advance

Ian

why not just save the document with the read-only protection on it? When you go to file/save as, select the options button and turn on Read-Only Recommended under the File Sharing options.

Thanks,
But is there a way to force it to open up as read only?
I don`t want to give the option of Read only and am trying to avoid the password option.

I currently have Restrictions on the Folder only allowing Full control to a few users but when another user opens the file then this seems to block anyone else going in as full use to change information.

I`ve done this with excel but can`t seem to get it to work with word :(

The other option for read-only is to go out to the file structure where this file resides and go into the properties of it and on the general tab select read-only. When the document then gets opened, you will see in the title bar [document name] (Read-Only). If they try to save it, it will prompt them that it's read only and then give them a save as dialog box.

Thanks

If I then wanted to go in at a later date myself and edit this file would I be able to to this in modify mode by just changing this factor even if people already have it open?

If it is currently opened by someone, you will not be able to change the attributes of the file. You would have to wait for the document to be closed.

:( I was hoping there was a way around that like excel etc :(

Oh well, Thanks for your help.

Ian
