What are some options for optimizing the viewing and editing of large PowerPoint and PDF files using Citrix over a WAN?

Our remote sales people need to get at files on our Corporate LAN. Even with a broadband Internet connection their Citrix session locks up when they try to open PDF and PowerPoint files.

Completely depends on where the CItrix is and where the Files are. You want the files and Citrix server close together. If files are on client PC's forget it.

Most Citrix implementations have the file server and the Citrix server on the same network for easy access to files (or as ascotta pointed out on the client machines). If your files are distributed across the WAN you have a couple of choices;
1. Installing File caching devices in your remote sites (fairly expensive)
2. Deploy DFS in your Windows environment.

Hope this helps.

Hello, and thank you for your replys!

Our Citrix server and our file servers are on the same network. We have looked into file caching devices and found them to be very expensive and not really targeted for the road warrior/slash single user remote office.

I confess I am ignorant what DFS does, how would DFS help us?

Thanks,
Brent

As long as the PDF's and POwerpoints are on the same Lan as Citrix it should be fine. But not on the client machines, they really have to live on servers.
