Opening files in Photoshop CS4 are faded

hi
when i open files in Photoshop cs4, the photos become a little faded
how do i show the photos true colors?
i havent changed any of the settings
it just changed by itself...
the photos appear faded but when i save the files, they return to normal
any hints?

Have you tried to reset your preferences to factory settings?

i've tried and reset photoshops preferences but it didnt help
another thing ive tried is opening the photo with several different applications

Adobe Photoshop CS4 - Faded
Picasa 3.6 - True Colors
Windows Photo Viewer - Faded
Windows Media Center - True Colors
Quicktime PictureViewer - True Colors
Paint - True Colors
Nero CoverDesigner - True Colors
FireFox 3.6 - True Colors
Internet Explorer 8 - True Colors

any ideas?
i need photoshop to show the photos true colors to edit them

i needed to calibrate my display settings via control panel
