Hi everyone,
One of the main reasons to set up our VPN was for Remote Access into our database. After a lot of "hair pulling" I finally managed to get our users, access to our Network Shares. Unfortunately we can't open our access database. It's Access XP & the Kb article to support the error message says you have to retrieve display records by using ASP.Net, ADO.net etc, which will require programing skills. Has anyone had this same problem & did they find a less work intensive solution?

TIA
Kilt

I haven't tried opening Access databases over a VPN but I will do so tonight when I have a chance. At least I can tell you if it should be possible. I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Have you considered terminal-services to solve your remote-access needs. I needed remote users to have access via a VPN but any client-server application would not have the performance I would want. Terminal-services for these remote users offers blazing speed as it is hosted on a server connected locally on my 100MB lan infrastucture at the home office.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried TS - it works but the end user says it's too slow so I'm looking at 3rd party applications to speed things up. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Kilt

I have had great results using TS even over a modest 56K dialup line. I would revisit what your tried before when the user percieved it to be to slow. I find it blazing fast compared to running client-server apps over a VPN wherein the client is at one end of the vpn and the server is at the other.

There are 3rd party products like Citrix (expensive) that offer more tuning options and TS like capability but its more for large enterprise shops.

Perhaps you could get help from a TS forum here.

btw: Is your VPN router-to-router or a software vpn?
