Bonjour,

I have bad response time opening files on the WAN :

using word 2000 on a citrix metaframeXP, Win 2000 ,open a file of 72 Kb takes about 2mn -
opening the same file using word97 on a citrix 1.8 NT4 takes about 30s.

many thanks for any help

Regards

Elisabeth

Do you have a default printer driver when using Citrix and can Word see it?

I have made new tests.
It's the same response time with or without default printer .

Openning the same file using wordpad or notepad, the response time are correct. Openning the same file, using word97 it's correct also.

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Regards

Elisabeth

Then possibly the Word 2000 normal.dot file is corrupt. I am remotely connected to my work's Citrix server over a broadband link and response times are virtually the same as when I am sitting on my work network. A 72kb document should open (starting from Word closed) in less than 10 seconds.

If you have permissions to use the RUN command line from the Citrix desktop, try opening Word using Start, Run and typing in:

winword /a

and press enter. This will open Word in Safe Mode (bypassing normal.dot or any other third party add-ins or custom macros). See how fast the documetn opens in Safe Mode.

thanks for your help,

opening file in safe mode ( winword /a) has the same elapse time :
about 2 mn for 72kb.

Ah!. I've just reread your original post. So, when you open the document in Word2k on the Citrix XP, is the document template available? To see which template the document 'needs', open the document and check in Tools, Templates and Add-ins and it will show you at the top of the dialog. I'm guessing that this template is available on the Citrix 1.8 server but not on the Citrix XP server. Copying the template folder to the same location on the other server should resolve the issue.
