Howdy folks,

Is it possible to force a user to Open .doc files rather than present the option to open or save when a link to the file is left-clicked on.

Also, would it be possible to detect whether Microsoft Word or Microsoft Word Viewer is installed on the machine and, if neither is present, throw up a message box stating this fact with a link to the Microsoft Word Viewer download. Re-directing to another page if Word or Word Viewer isn't installed would be fine if this is easier / better than a message box.

Thanks in advance

Howdy folks,

I'm not trying to be pushy or anything, just wondering if anyone has a solution to this??

Thanks

The Open and Download buttons are set at the clients browser. If the user has their browser set to prompt them before opening a document then you can't override that.

As far as checking to see if the user has MS Word or a viewer installed you would probably need a script for that. I couldn't find anything but I didn't look that hard either.

Are there people out ther who don't have software installed on their computer that can open a .doc?

Wordpad will open a word document without having word installed.
