Hi...I have a problem with Windows XP...The thing is that when I want to open "My Pc" in my desktop, it doesn´t open maximized, so i have to manually maximize it...How can I make it start maximized??

Thanks in advance..

Thank you very much for all your answers...I will try everything you have told me...

As regards system restore...i have tried it before bit everytime i wanted to restore when i rebooted it said "restore incomplete"...

linney's comments above where intended to make your resolve some "known" issues:

. clear your Temp folders.
. clear your System Restore older restore points
. clear up all sorts of regular junk

This is excellent advice, as the behavior of your system is not the normal one.

Double-click My Computer, double-click each of your drives one-by-one and select the Disk Cleanup tool. Select the 'Other Options' tab and cleanup everything that looks reasonable. Then the General Tab and start the cleanup.

If you have an issue with System Restore, the Disk Cleanup tool should resolve it.

Do not confuse System Restore with forcing a "System File Check" status check of your system EXE and DLL files. Start, Run, sfc /Scannow
will start the System File Checker. It takes a while, and says nothing while working. (Event Viewer will show you any complaints afterwards).

Reboot after each of the above operations.

Well..it seems that nothing worked, i tried to restore system again but had the same message...thanks anyway to everyone who reply to this message..

Not System Restore.

Disk Cleanup.
The System File Checker facility: Start, Run, sfc /Scannow

System Restore will never restore you to any point in time where the machine's configuration is faulty. They will only allow you to restore to a trouble free point in time.

This in itself suggest a more serious underlying fault on your machine.

Look in the System or Application folder. You can get to the Event Viewer via right click My Computer icon and select Manage.

Any errors logged in the Event Viewer can be expanded by double clicking on the error line.

Take any event error I.D. number and search for it on these sites.

Do you have any other user profile you can test out under in case your profile has become corrupted?

I have only one profile...but as regards disk cleanup..do i have to have windows xp cd?? (cause I dont..)

The old Tweak was TweakUI ver 133. The new one is TweakXP. I know, I still call it TweakUI!

I won't ask why you have no CD, perhaps you have a recovery partition or similar.

You don't require any CD to run Disk Cleanup. It is launched from a link on your Desktop or from the Properties page of a drive.

You do have the Administrator User in Safe Mode as an alternative profile to try.

I ´ve tried the disk cleanup but no errors were found so..let me ask you one more thing...is there a program that functions as windows ´s restore system and uses its restore points so as to try and see if the program can help me??

"is there a program that functions as windows ´s restore system and uses its restore points so as to try and see if the program can help me??"

I have never heard of such a program. The responsibility is on you to some extent. The real issue is that you do not have a true XP CD to use to do an sfc /Scannow or a reinstallation repair.

Call the manufacturer of the machine and talk to their Tech Support. Often you can convince them to sell you at a very modest cost a full XP CD. Dell, for example, charges just shipping if the machine is under warranty, $11.00 plus shipping otherwise.

Are you sure you have actually run Disk Cleanup, your comments "I ´ve tried the disk cleanup but no errors were found so", are not really associated towards Disk Cleanup, as that program is not an error checking type of program, it removes old temp files from the hard drive.

Could it be you are confusing Disk Cleanup with Chkdsk, the hard drive checking utility?

have you installed a program that automatically resizes windows (such as ATI Hydrovision) ? perhaps something like that is resizing your explorer window for you

I didn´t install anything.. and yes, i was confusing Disk Cleanup with Chkdsk, but anyway...i ran both and still nothing...

Did you ever try this fellow in Safe Mode to see if you have the problem only in your user profile?

"You do have the Administrator User in Safe Mode as an alternative profile to try".

My two cents... Is it possible there is a group policy set on the machine that prevents it from saving any changes? We have set those on machines in order to prevent the user from making "permanent" changes to the way items appear.
