I'm a newby 3rd day into building a web page. Built FP2002 web in my own directory, created a web home page with an image and text over the image. When I go back later and open web, just get empty screen, but when I click navigation and double click the area where I placed home page, then I see page, complete with text over image. Page is index.htm

When I open index.htm using IE explorer, I only get the image, no text. Any thoughts, suggestions? Also is there another forum or listserv more appropriate for newby questions?
Thanks,
Ralph

What do you mean by "image and text over the image"? Please give a little more detail.

I started my home page by dividing it up in sections using a table. I then merged cells in the top row together to create a wide top cell. I then took a photo that I had previously cropped to about 2 by 11 inches and coverted to a 72dpi tiff, and used insert from file to place into the top cell. Looked fine. L then clicked on the picture to select it and went down to the large A on the picture toolbar to add text. That said it had to convert to GIF to do that. I said ok and it placed a small transparent text block on the image. I typed in my text, adjusted font, size, and dragged to the spot where I wanted it on the image. My home page is called index.htm - when I open the file index.htm using IE explorer I don't see the text. I thought I could open a page using explorer or netscape to check the page before publishing. Thanks again for any info.

Hi backpack45,

Now could you see the text over the image when you switch from "Normal" view to "Preview" in Microsoft Frontpage?

Now try to click on the save button on top of the page then under the file menu select Preview In Browser. Tell me how you did, if it doesn't work than we will proceed to the next troubleshooting step.

It disappeared in preview in browser. Noticed one odd thing. I have two images. Earlier when when I did a save, both showed up in a window that said overwrite imbedded image. This time only the 2nd image showed up. However, did a save once more, and neither showed up.

Now what I would advice you to close out of Frontpage, then open it up again, start a brand new blank page, insert a new image(not the old one you have inserted), repeat the procedure you did to create the text over image. When you click save, FrontPage will ask what do you want to do with the embedded image, now if the URL of your image is already on your web server like this: click on the set action button and change it to "Don't save", if your are just working off a local copy of your website, leave the action to be "save" then select the folder where you want the image to be in then click "OK" to save. Now preview in browser. Let me know how you are doing, if it doesn't work, give me the address to your page then I would try to fix it, then I will send the code back to you then you could paste it on your page.

That did it - thanks for the help. I did notice that my 28 point white text turned blue-ish when I previewed with browser, but that's a different question, and will investigate myself first. Thanks again,
Ralph
