Trying to play Jedi Outcast. Using Win98 SE, 1.7gh 256ram, still trying to figure out what video card it has.. Found something called Super VGA 800x600 @75 hz. Sound right? When I try to play the game, this pops up....

Could Not Load OpenGL Subsystem
You may see an error when attempting to start the game stating Could Not Load OpenGL Subsystem. If this occurs, please check the following before trying to start the game:
· First, make sure that your video card is supported. Please check the list of Supported 3D Cards and Chipset in the Video Section of this troubleshooting guide to see if your card is listed.
· Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video card. Please check the Video Section of this troubleshooting guide for the list of drivers that were tested with this game.
· If you are using a video card that supports dual monitors, the secondary monitor must be disabled for OpenGL to initialize correctly.
· Make sure the 3D hardware acceleration is turned all the way up. You can check this by going through Analyze your Computer, which is accessible through the Help menu in the launcher

Any ideas what file I need here??

You need to find out what type of graphics card you have and install the latest drivers.

Yes, I should be slapped, but how do I find out what graphics card I have?

under the start button, goto run and type in
dxdiag
when the window opens click on the display tab
this will tell you the video card and the drivers loaded for it. let me know if i helped or not, thanks

Thanks chaosinc, this is what I found:
Name: SiS6326
Manufacturer: Sis
Chip Type: 6326 AGP RevH0
DAC Type: Internal
Approximate Total Memory: 4.0mb
Monitor: Super VGA 800x600 @75hz

===Drivers===

Main Driver: sis6326m.drv
Version: 4.10.01.1250
Certified: no
MiniVDD: sis6326m.vxd
VDD: *vdd

Hope this helps.

ok, well unfortunately sis is the manufaturer of the chipset itself. they do not make the acual cards or boards.
next thing we can try is to right click on the desktop and go into properties/settings/advenced and click on the adapter tab. this might show the manufacturer of the card you have. sis suggests to goto the manufacturer of your card for driver updates. if all else fails i think i have the e-mail address of a guy who claims to have the open gl drivers for your chipset. it is at home though. getting out of work right now, so i will check back after i'm home.
good luck let me know if i helped or not, thanks

In the Adapter tab, it gives me the same info listed above that I got from the thing you told me to do in the Run prompt. Looks we're going to have to do the email thing from your buddy? Thanks for being such a help...

well i see that didn't get anyfarther for you. i sent him an e-mail and am waiting to hear back from him now. will get back to you one way or another as far as him having the drivers you need. in the mean time i'm still tracking down a couple more leads. let me know if i helped or not, thanks

thanks chaosinc. will try it and let you know what happens shortly.

Welcome to Tatooine... It's a real garden spot.

Alrighty. Got the setup program from the link, executed, and restarted. Made no difference. Found out from my husband that the error message comes up in a DOS window that says exactly this....

< GLW_StartOpenGL() - could not load OpenGL subsystem >

Maybe this is a different error message than what I originaly thought? Not sure, but that's the scoop. Oi.... my head hurts already. :) nocturnia@cmsinter.net get back to me here if it's any easier. No one else seems to be viewing or commenting on this thread lol

One thing I've found is that OpenGL doesn't work well if at all on less than 8MB video cards and/or some chipsets. Games always seem to require much better video cards than anything else.

berton is right there.
thought it said 64 mb onboard. not 4mb.
sorry for getting your hopes up.
was worth a try though...
if nothing else, for shits and giggles try the gl setup prog.
you seem to be running a good new system.
why not a new vid card?
didn't mean to waste your time.
peace love and happiness let me know if i helped or not, thanks
