When I have an Excel file open and minimized then open another Excel file it activates the minimized file and puts it behind the new file. How can I stop that from happening? It is supposed to be a feature but it is annoying. I read that Word does the same thing but there is a registry hack for Word but not Excel.

In case that above is hard to understand I will say it another way.

There is a minimized Excel file. I open another Excel file and the minimized one pops up for no reason.

This is in Office 2013.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I've seen the same activity, but haven't the slightest idea on how to change. It must be in how the files are linked to the application object. If that is the case, then perhaps you can force each workbook to open in a separate instance by shift-click on the Excel icon in your taskbar for the second workbook. Then open the file from that instance. If my theory is correct, that may solve the issue. I've done this for other reasons. Haven't tested for your scenario.

the one annoyance you may run into is the message stating the Personal Macro Workbook is locked for editing when you open the second file IF you have macros stored in your Personal Macro Workbook. If you do not use that, then you should not really notice a difference. Could be some differences in formulas and such at times between files, perhaps on copy options if you want to copy worksheets between workbooks, but shouldn't be a deal breaker.
