Open error:...... (DOS Error 5) 1

DOS error 5 is an Access denied error. This error may be the result of a sharing violation or you may be running out of available file handles on the server. I have had to change the maximum number of file handles on a Novell server with on of my applications that opens many files and indexes at the same time.

In addition to what cjcdojo said I have gotten this error when a connection to a network device was lost. When running a clipper app with bnc connectors some years ago this error would crop up and usually the connection to the file server was lost although this is an extreme example. Since we have replaced all that hardware.
