OOPS, Need urgent help on how to do a fix. Access 97, No VB. I have setup the workgroup. I had added the other 2 admins to the group. I was in the user & group permission area, on the change owner tab, groups selected was admin for the new owner, and object type was macro. I highlighted the entire list and selected the button change new owner. Something happened. Only one macro had the Admin listed as owner, the remainder of the list showed <unknown>. One macro I can open that has <unknown> the as owner, the remained of the macros I can not open, which I can not run my switchboard. How can I fix this.....I need
anyone's or everyones help on this problem. Thanks in advance
If you are still legal as an admin, you should be able to make any changes to any objects regardless of who the owner is. You should also be able to change the owner of each object back to yourself as admin. In my experience, the only time I have seen <unknown> as an owner of an object is when I deleted a user from the databse (when he left the company). All the objects he created showed <unknown> as owner. I was able to use that to review his stuff and decide which to eliminate, and which to change to myself as owner.

Thank you Elizabeth for responding. I have tried logging on as each user I have set up in all groups, plus us three admins and the Admin default, and still can not run nor design any of the macros. Any other suggestions??? I need all the help I can get at this point. Thanks

If you programmed the macros yourself, then I would suggest simply deleting the old and rewriting some new ones. As painful as it seems it looks like the easiest solution.
There is the posibility that you should try to make a copy of the database and open the copy. possibly you may be able to open the macros that way.
I have found that copying access databases has interesting results.

<a href= Eclectic Page
You could try creating a new db and importing all objects into it. You would want to do this logged in as an admin (not the admin user).

Hmmm, and also you may be able to simply copy each object (Ctl-C, Ctl-V). The new copy should have you as owner.

Thanks for all of the great feedback. I solved my OOPs problem. I could pull from LAN backup a copy of my db from 5 days prior to turning security on, I did have to make some updates to reports, etc. In all the documentations I read about security, I wish they would have said the FIRST thing to do is backup your db. The documentation I used was MS TechNet Chapter 18 - Securing Access Databases and MS Access Security FAQ authored by Andy Baron, Chris Bell, Mary Chipman, and Paul Litwin. If you have other good sources with info on security, please let me know. Again, thanks a zillion!!!
