Hi all,

Yesterday I was doing basic account maintenance on my ES 5.5 and coordinating with my boss and HR, we agreed to delete some mailboxes that were not in use. In that list were 3 that were not supposed to be deleted (roaming salesmen). There weren't any important emails in them but I want to know if it is possible to just go somewhere and bring them back. I believe the settings here are to permanently delete after 2 days so I should have plenty of time. I know I could just recreate them but I want to know if I can just "undelete" them.

Any advice would be very appreciated.

We hide our mailboxes for 30 days before really deleting them, and on day's 1 and 25 send the mailbox a message saying in 30 (or 5) days it will be permenantly deleted, and to reply immediately if still needed. We've not had to recover an incorrectly deleted mailbox in 6 years...

There is no option to undelete, only to restore from backup.

I usually recommend using exmerge to turn MB into .pst BEFORE deleting. Then you can recreate the MB and exmerge this file back into it if you make a mistake...now though, depending on your backup routine, you may have lots of fun restoring the exchange databases to get it back.

I guess I was lucky this time, the reason these accounts were not in use is that they were only a "front" account. Each one of these users has a personal account they use for email since they are never here in the office. They all had their personal accounts setup also but they were hidden and the local accounts were only pointing to their personal emails. Weird the way the previous guy had it setup. Is there any particular reason why you would want this setup this way?

It looks like your users wanted to use a single account for business and personal email. Since the business email address was still required, they all had to have Echange accounts with the proper email address, as a result all email traffic simply was forwarded through the "front accounts" to their personal accounts.

Highly unusual setup.

Ok, I get it.. so they didn't want to give out their personal email address, so they gave the business one. Everything is forwarded to their personal. That is until they have to email out, it will show their personal.

I wonder why didn't they just use POP3 to access the exchange server.
